missed my pens

I realized I've been drawing pretty much nothing than my thesis, which I already want to set on fire and throw out the window. Intervention was necessary.

So I tried to do some stuff similar to Aubrey Beardsley's style. He's one of my favorites. His style is dark with hits of Japanese influence and some Art Nouveau flair.

It's been ages since I used my Sakura pens. They were quite dusty, but usable still much to my relief. I drew my picture and scanned it.
I also used a handy Photoshop action called "make scan into lineart" from my sophomore digital coloring class to color. Unfortunately it's been too long since I used this process, so I did some unorthodox ways to haphazardly (very incorrectly) make the whole thing work.

If this looks familiar, then I don't have to say more.w I can't say that I'm proud about how this came out, but it was refreshing to do something else for a change.

I often don't like how my inked works come out, and I like them even less when I try to color them. I'm not sure if it has to do with the Photoshop process from that class because it often makes my drawing so irreversibly choppy, ruining the handiwork I've done beforehand, or my scanner is just that good at screwing up everything. BLAH!!

I'll try to do some more pen-work in the future, and I'll provide both the color and uncolored versions.

  1. I like it the only thing is... that moon looks a bit out of place...

    1. Thanks ;) Yeah the moon bit. For some reason, Blogspot warped the colors on the drawing 1000x over. So the pink's not that fluorescent and the moon is not purple but a softer shade of pink. X__x あいやぁ~!!

  2. And Jen, my love, I think you'll like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYgTJ9D4Rgg

It's Korean, but not like usual K-pop... it's more like K-rock! The visuals are stunning, too.

    1. Ohh K-rock. I remember I used to talk with some people who were crazy over a K-rock musician named Seo Taiji but I heard he was on hiatus or something.

The vid's interesting! I did raise an eyebrow. :P

    2. Yeah! Seo Taiji is pretty good, I'm not sure if he's on hiatus though. Mary Story is good too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig3vumHk0pM

      But they're a bit more pop-rock.
